ANNUAL REPORT 2007

President's Report 2007

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

It is hard to believe how fast this year bas gone. And what a year it bas been. We have revised our constitution, started a new ministry team with the Ministry of Media introduced a new hymnal, learned new liturgy , traveled together to Trek West, had a very successful Bible School, lost members through death, gained new members to the HTLC family, we sent a pastor on sabbatical and welcomed him back, and said good-bye to another pastor .

It is my honor to serve as your president during the past year. It would be unforgivable if I did not thank all of those serving presently on council. They are a wonderful group which works so well together. Current members of the council include Becki Bergs, Vadis Davis, Dick Elias, Dave Simpson, Laura Adamson, Laurie Parsons, Diane Calvert, and John Huff. Thanks also to outgoing congregation secretary , Roger Hollands, who always gently reminded me when I was about to leave out something important. I appreciate very much when the congregation takes the time to pass their comments to me, with their concerns. Please continue to do so. I share all of these with the council and we discuss them extensively.

It has been wonderful to see so many people willing to help with so many different things that go on in our church. However, there are still some places that could use some willing members. During this past year we have not had a Convener for the Ministry of Hospitality .The year ahead has even more needs, with additional Conveners needed for the Ministry of Media and the Ministry of Nurture. It is my hope that we will find more faithful and willing members to serve on these vital ministry teams.

I am looking forward to a great 2008.

Together in Christ,

David Shears

VICE PRESIDENT'S REPORT

It has been my honor to serve as your vice president for 2007.

I have regularly attended Sunday and Lenten worship, sang in the senior choir and with the praise 6and and hefped" with music for Vacation Bible School.

Other activities have included attending softball games, cooking a summer breakfast or two, but mostly I have participated in the Ministry of Worship.

In the Ministry of Worship I have served as the council inspiriter as wll as the secretary. I have also mentored" the acolytes, who are the best. I added 10 pillar banners to our collection this year.

These activities have given me the opportunity to interact with many of the hard working members at HTLC. I've enjoyed our discussions over the happy and not so happy events of the year and I hope that I have been an encouraging influence in your life at HTLC.

Please feel free to talk with me.

Continued Blessing to you.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church
Annual Congregational Meeting
January 28, 2007

The Annual Congregational Meeting was opened at 9:25 with a hymn and a brief prayer led by Pastor John.

Dawn-Marie Obeny, Vice-President of the Council was introduced .She described the information in the packet of materials and gave a brief report on her activities, including her service as Acting President of the Council during the last several months.

Roger Hollands, Secretary of the Council was introduced. He noted that the minutes of the 2006 Annual Meeting were in the packet of materials and had been approved at the February Council meeting.

Dawn -Marie Oberly introduced the new Council President, David Shears to preside at the vote on the constitutional amendments. The written ballots were distributed. Discussion on the amendments opened. There being no questions or comments, discussion was closed and members of the Congregation voted by secret ballot. After voting was completed, the ballots were counted. The vote was 41 yes and two abstentions. The amendments passed and will be sent to the Synod for review. Special thanks to Frank Martin and the Committee members.

Pastor John commented briefly on his annual report. After encouraging the congregation to read his report, he opened with a challenge to support a nursery school sponsored by the Buen Samaritano (Good Samaritan) congregation in Chile, a special project of the Indiana Kentucky Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chile. Funds are needed by March to keep the school open. $450 supports one child for one year. Pastor John noted that he would be on his sabbatical as authorized bythe Council from April 18 through July 14. Among other things, he plans to write a book of prayers as he travels across the country on or parallel to Route 66. He also expressed his thanks to Pastor Frank Stevenson for his very generous financial support of the church and of the Lutheran Center at Ball State this year .

Pastor Joe commented briefly on his annual report. He remarked at how responding to our weakness can be a part of God's strength. From among his many acfNities and services, he noted especially the development of the grief care and support team, the living with grief workshops as well as the regular meetings of the life after loss support group.

Becki Bergs was introduced as our new VIce-President. She commented briefly on the statistical summary and membership analysis. It was noted that we have 351 active family units. Average weekly attendance has increased this past year to 192. This reflects in part, the additional praise service on the third Saturday of each month.

Becki also thanked Pauline Dragoo and the Blanket Cupboard as part of the Helping Hands group of Christian Ministries of Delaware County .

Becki Bergs introduced Treasurer , Dick Elias who reviewed the financial reports. General fund contributions totaled $312,768.32 forthe year. Contributions for designated funds including the HTLC Foundation totaled $192,541.97 for a total including interest of $508,637.56. General Fund Contributions exceeded the Budget requirement by $5,290.94. Spending also exceeded the budget by almost the same amount so we ended with an operating deficit of $8837.82. This is almost the same as was carried over from 2006.

The proposed budget for 2007 was introduced by Dorothy Ashby from the Ministry of Support. The projected total is $314,463. This is an increase of 2%. The budget had been approved by the Council and was ready for the Congregational vote. There being no questions, the Congregation voted unanimously to approved the proposed budget for 2007.

The Ministry reports were briefly reviewed. Becki Bergs commented on the Ministry of Worship. The new church hymnals are here. There is still a need for more contributions of $20 each. Each hymnal can be dedicated "in memory of "or "in honor of a loved one". She thanked the choir, the praise band (renamed HIS for Here I Stand), the altar guild, the acolytes, the ushers, and all others who helped this year .

The Buildings and Grounds report was reviewed. New project priorities for 2007 include the Sunday school roof, a new entry way, repair of sanctuary windows and replacement of the floor in Fellowship Hall.

The report of the Hospitality Ministry was reviewed. Many thanks are in order for their service during the year. A new convener is needed to take over from Gwen Carey .The Binding Ties group will still assist with pastoral care matters.

The Ministry of Nurture report was reviewed with the Congregation. Thanks to all who assisted in the many events. A new Sunday School convener is needed as is a new VBS coordinator. Special thanks to Dustan and Kelli Smith, Ann Simpson as well as Martesa Aber and Laura Adamson .

The Outreach Ministry report was reviewed. It was a very busy year with an expanded role for the Parish Nurse program. Many thanks to all who participated in the many services provided by the Outreach Ministry .A new convener is needed. Elaine Malzahn did a great job this year .

The contribution of $1,600 from Thrivent was gratefully acknowledged .

The Holy Trinity Foundation report was reviewed. $25,187 was given to congregational programs this year. Total assets from memorial gifts have grown to $567,155.

The services provided by Project Stepping Stone was also acknowledged. A generous grant from Pastor Frank Stevenson has allowed the group to continue operating three houses even after the state grant funding ended. New grants will be applied for this year.

The letter from seminary student Tracy and her husband Jeff Paschke-Johannes was acknowledged. Tracy has received Congregational support in her seminary education.

There being no further business, the Annual Meeting was closed with a prayer led by Pastor Joe and the congregation was dismissed at 10:15 a.m..

Pastor John D. Malzahn's Annual Report 2007
Glory to God whosepower, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.

"Rex Knowles relates in a collection of stories of Christmas that he had shut himself in his study when there was a knock on his door. His children had a play to perform, and he could tell it was a Christmas play because of the lighted flashlight wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a shoe box. The classic story culminated when his eight-year-old entered, undulating like she was riding a camel, bedecked with all available jewelry. She carried a pillow with three items. After bowing to the holy family she announced. "1 am all three wise men. I bring precious gifts: gold, circumstance, and mud." Mr. Knowles says that instead of laughing at this mistake, he prayed. And I have to agree that his daughter's list seems accurate of the things I bring to the altar this year. At any given moment, circumstance and mud might be pretty good descriptors of my experience. But I'm also reminded that the first Christmas story was itself the product of circumstance beyond the control of the characters. It's pretty stunning what can happen to mud when faith, hope, and love have the day." -Stephen Bauman, SIMPLE TRurns

I. Circumstance And Mud

I like Stephen Bauman's Christmas-Epiphany image derived from what Rex Knowles beheld in his children acting out the Holy Family visited by three Wisemen rolled into one 8-year-old daughter. I'm also inclined to agree with Bauman that circumstance and mud are probably good descriptors of my experience, too. Dare I say of our HTLC experience right now? From my vantage point, we have been contending in recent weeks with both circumstance and mud, with circumstances that have been hurtful to many we love, and it has felt rather like slogging through the mud. The going has been tough. You feel as though you could slip and get mired down. Each step takes extra effort.

But, here's where faith, hope and love have the day, because, somehow, we maintain our balance, put one muddy foot in front of the other and face hurtful circumstances conscious of healing and help from Above. I am reminded of the words we spoke in prayer on a dark night in November: "When grief is a reality and healing is ajourney, your grace will make a difference." I believe with all my heart that circumstances and mud are transfigured (to use an end of Epiphany image) by the energies offaith, hope and love that will have the day.

II. Forward In Mission

We also dared to pray these words on that dark November night: "When the Spirit beckons us forward in your mission, your grace will make a difference." There is no short cut through mud and circumstance except to move forward. By the grace of God, through God's own gifts of faith, hope and love, we are moving forward. May I suggest that we continue to do so by bathing each step in prayer?

A few weeks ago, the Spirit prompted me to gather brothers and sisters in a prayer partnership for HTLC. For one-halfhour every Wednesday, we have been praying our way into God's future. We are listening for direction, paying attention to the Spirit's prompting and letting God have his perfect way in us and with us. Your heart should be beating a little faster now because what I'm relating is exciting, powerful stuff. A congregation that dares to just sit before God in expectant prayer is a people ona launching pad. Prayer is an action that expects a reaction, as in chain-reaction.

Last fall I read Martha Grace Reese's wonderful book on evangelism called UNBINDING THE GOSPEL. Reese says some insightful and energizing things about how the so-called "Mainline"churches not only can, but are rebounding after .decades of decline. But, even more then being an exciting primer on relational evangelism, which grows out of her directorship of the Lilly funded "Mainline Evangelism Project," this book makes a compelling case for congregational prayer being at the very heart of all renewal, including a renewed emphasis on evangelism and outreach.

Reese writes, "Prayer is the way to stay in love with God. Prayer is the way individuals, small groups and congregations grow and become vivid. It is a habit, a discipline, but not discipline with a clenched jaw. Prayer is more about receiving from God than it is about asking God for things or working hard at intercession. Prayer involves effort, habit and focus; but it results in lightness and energy ."

As we move forward through difficult emotions, uncertain outcomes, and into the unkno':\'fi future, I covet the lightness and energy that come from prayer. Prayer also reminds us that the unknown future is always God's future and, therefore, filled not only with challenges, but with gifts and opportunities. Let's pray passionately through the present and embrace God's future filled with possibility and power.

lll. Because Your Spirit Is Among Us. ..

Not only were the above words part of our congregational prayer last November, but they keep reminding me to look for the Spirit in our midst. And, I have not been disappointed. From the perspective of almost twenty years at HTLC, I can honestly say I have never seen us richer in the Spirit than in some of these trying days. Into the pain of this time, God has brought the gospel of forgiveness~ the ability to speak the truth in love and the hope and confidence that come from believing that God always births the new creation in the midst of brokenness.

Ask me where I see the Spirit in our midst and I will point to prospective members scheduling baptisms, to a full sanctuary the day I had to walk down our long aisle as a solo pastor again, to a seminary intern in our midst with her wonderful family. Ask me where I've experienced the Spirit recently and I'll tell you about a Pre-Christmas communion with Pastor Frank Stevenson and receiving his blessing as I knelt beside him. I'll tell you about letters and phone calls I've received, not to mention your Christmas cards and gifts. I've been encouraged in my ministry by the Spirit's presence in so many HTLC souls from little children to aged shut-ins.

Because the Spirit is among us, I would like to suggest that we open ourselves to the Spirit's direction in a series of "Listening Post" conversations, perhaps hosted by our Council, where we come together to discuss visions ofHTLC's life and mission. From this perspective, this time of transition is a kairos moment, to borrow a word from the New Testament. Kairos is translated "time," but not simply clock time or calendar time. Kairos means "seize the moment time." Be alive to God's timing, to discern the direction God is leading us. Indeed, as I share these words with you, I am also mindful that it is kairos time for two other ministries in our midst. Two long tenured leaders will be leaving both Lutheran Church of the Cross and The Lutheran Center at BSU. The Spirit will be mightily at work among us! So, let's work with the Spirit.

I ask you in this kairos time at HTLC to step boldly into the ever-flowing stream (an Epiphany baptismal image!) which is this congregation's amazing life. Make a strong and sincere commitment to yourself and your Lord to be at worship every Lord's Day you possibly can. A kairos time also demands koinonia, to borrow another New Testament word, which means community. We need to be together as a congregation around the Lord's Table and every other fellowship and learning table as often as we can be. In addition, be a cheerful and generous giver of the resources God has blessed you with. Open yourself as never before to the Lord's call to serve and through HTLC. Let me suggest that the Ministry of Support conduct its annual Time and Talent commitment during the fIrst weeks of Lent with as much innovation and encouragement that they can dream up. And, that each of us responds with as much faith, commitment and boldness as we can.

Right now, for example, the Lord is knocking at the door of someone's heart to become the next convener and partner for the Ministry of Hospitality or Nurture or Media. God needs a bunch of his most blessed children to say what we sang during the hymn of day, "Here I am, Lord." God needs still another blessed child ofhis to partner with our Project Stepping Stone board as its next president. I am not lifting up these roles merely as a recruiting gimmick, but in the faith that God is, even now, calling someone as these words are heard.

Some in our midst have already answered the Spirit's call to step forward in service during this kairos interim at HTLC. One of these is, of course, Vicar Tracy Paschke-Johannes. As a fourth year seminary intern involved in a residency at St. Vincent's Hospice in Indy, she already had a "Learning Contract" established with us through Luther Seminary .We were going to provide Tracy with some opportunities to share and grow her gifts in some pastoral roles she would not likely have experienced at St. Vincent's. Prompted by the Spirit's call to Tracy and our many needs during this interim, we will be enhancing our already established learning contract as described elsewhere in this Bulletin of Reports. As I see it, this arrangement is surely the Spirit's work in our midst! Praise God and thank you, Tracy!

IV .Praise God And Thank You, HTLC!

I cannot let this annual opportunity pass without, once again, thanking you for the grace of my twelve week sabbatical. I dare say I would not be able to face this time with whatever energy and inspiration that I have were it not for the rich experiences of those weeks. Elaine and I got a lot more than "Kicks on Route 66." We felt the very spirit of God and saw the Lord Jesus in his people. ARd, that goes on!

Beyond this, I would not be able to rise to the challenge and opportunity of this time without all of you, my partners in ministry, in every aspect of this congregation's life and witness. Thank you is not enough, but it is heartfelt. And, as always, I thank my wife, life-partner and lover of God and me, Elaine. Ruth 1:16-17

V Because the Peace of God Surrounds Us.

As real as our human struggle and sin, our hurts and heartaches, our banes and brokenness is the Peace of God. I pray this peace upon each of you, and especially upon every hurting individual and family at HTLC, including our friends Joe and Nancy. I pray God's peace upon God's church in every place of trial and turmoil. I pray God's peace upon God's beautiful, but broken, world especially where our sons and daughters serve and sacrifice, and in all those places where the innocents suffer. I pray God's peace upon all victims and all victimizers, upon the strong and the weak, the doubters and the disciples, which is me and you. I pray the peace of God upon us all until the Prince of Peace shall come again, and Easter shall be forever .

Peace and love to you all,

Pastor John D. Malzahn

It is nice to under spend our budgetratber than overspend.

The proposed budget for 2007 is $274,999.

As of January 13,2008 we have received 103 pledges totaling $223,906. We are anticipating eliminating the deficit in 2008 f Respectfully submitted,

Annual Report
Ministry of Worship
January 2008

Following a successful hymnal sponsorship campaign, the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship Hymnals were put into use at the fIrst of the year. Such a major change as this was met, as expected with both positive and negative reaction and with time, negative comments have decreased as the congregation has become accustomed to the new Worship book. We have a goal offearing new liturgy, having a paper-saving bulletin, and yet be to be visitor friendly, all at the same time. Parts of one of the 10 new liturgies were gradually added, so that by the end of the year, the liturgy was complete, and even a new psalm tone had been added. Thanks to Chuck Gallatin and members of the Senior choir, who was enlisted to lead and teach parts of Setting One Iitmw from ELW.

A new oil-buming eternal light, purchased in memory of the Ted and Pat Varner , was added to the sanctuary.

The banners were inventoried, cleaned, and some were removed from use. Four new seasonal banners have been purchased and Becki Bergs made linings for them to protect them against snags from the brick walls.

Acolyte training was held in October, for those in graies 4 through 8. Robes were cleaned.

Advent this year had a theme of "Giving." Pastor John will read the Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, and on successive weeks in advent, the congregation brought non-perishable food for the Christian Ministries of Delaware County food pantry; brought personal items for the Wernle Home, and mittens and gloves for the Muncie Childrens ' Clothing Center .

The church was again beauIitiIIly decoratecI on Dec 1 and 8. Many thanks to Dondra Bennett and Carol Pinckney and the many volunteers who helped with what is always a tremendous undertaking.

One worship service was planned for Dec 16 to include the Children's ChrisImas Program. Due to inclement weather, the Program was actually presented on Dec 23. Thanks to Ann Simpson and the Sunday School children for this gift to the congregation.

Two services were held on Christmas Eve, one at 4 p.m. geared toward children, and the traditional service at 10:30 p.m. Each service had well in excess of 100 persons in at!tendance.

The Ministry of Worship wants to thank all those who had any role in Worship services over the past year, including the Acolytes, those who provided flowers, those who purchased hymnals, those who provided special music, especially the choral groups and instrumentalists, the praise band who provided and hung the banners, those who served as lectors, cantors, communion assistants, ushers; those who did the bulletins, filled the candles, cleaned and changed the pmameIIIs; those who chose or suggested hymns, set up and cleaned up for communion, and other tasks too numerous to mention. Many are quietly involved each week in making sure that all is ready for another Service to begin.

Respectfully submitted,
Carol Shears, Convener, Ministry of Worship

2007 ANNUAL REPORT BUILDING AND GROUNDS MINISTRY

The Ministry of Building and Grounds finished another successful year in 2007. A few of the 2007 projects are listed below:

  • Two spring clean-up days were completed on May 5th and 12th.
  • The volunteer flower bed maintenance program was reinstated during the summer and fall months.
  • New vanities were installed in the first floor "boys" and "girls" restrooms.
  • Repair of window glazing and sealing of roof flashing was completed on the main entryway.
  • The former recycling shed was removed due to its poor condition and a lack of interest in continuing this service.
  • The HTLC Foundation approved a grant to complete the replacement of broken panes of cathedral glass in the Sanctuary .A contract to replace approximately 35 panes of glass was signed with Moss Glass and the work will be completed in early 2008.
  • The exterior brick walls outside the rear stairs were sealed because moisture was damaging the drywall in the stairwell.
  • Two heating and cooling companies were asked to provide options for improving the efficiency of the current boiler system. No projects were initiated in 2007, but these projects will be explored further in 2008.

I'd like to thank the ministry team members, Rich Thompson and Randy Bergs, for their efforts throughout the year. I'd especially like to thank Vadis Davis as the inspiriitor of the Ministry of Building and Grounds and Fred Parker who continues to do a great job as custodian.  Finally, thanks  to everyone who participated in building and grounds projects throughout 2007.

Respectfully Yours,

Larry Wood,
Convener,
Ministry of Building and Grounds

Ministry of Hospitality
January -December 2007

This has been a challenging year for the Ministry since it functioned without a Convener since January.  Holy Trinity members are to be commended for continUing to plan and provide meals and refreshments during the year. Much work was done by various cell groups the Youth Group, the Ministry of Nurture, and individuals. This is truly the spirit of fellowship, and it is much appreciated.

But a Convener is needed to provide oversight and organization to Ministry activities. The Church Council will continue to discuss how best to handle these activities and the Ministry. The Council welcomes ideas, suggestions and, hopefully, someone to volunteer as Convener. The Binding

Ties Cell Group providOO fimerallunches for many of the Holy Trinity families listed below, with food contributions and help from church members:

January 3: George Valos
February 16: Lona Jones
February 17: Paul Down

April 14: Gregory Cox
April24: Knox Slaven
July 7: Willard Duffy
July 22: Warren Fisher
August 24: Frances Stevens
September: Barbara Stodghill
September 14: Joan Broadstreet

April 7: Easter Saturday vigil  reception

Summer: Breakfast was served between the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. services. Cell groups, sports teams, and families took turns preparing and serving food. Based on the good turnout, congregation members saw this as an opportunity to chat and sample home cooking.

August 29: light supper preceding Bishop Jim Stuck's meeting with Church Council, Ministry conveners, and the Ministry of Support.

November 4: breakfast duriIIg Pastor Jolm and Elaine's presentation on traveling Route 66 during their sabbatical.

The Ministry of Hospitality has nominal oversight of other activities. Without a Convener, the activities, outreach, and fellowship continued thanks to the dedication and initiative of congregation members. The work includes:

The Binding Ties, Seekers~ and Life Savers Cell Groups met regularly for Bible study, prayer, and fellowship. Binding Ties continues to sponsor Praying With Our Children; this pairs congregation children with adult members who pledge to pray for the child and send cards four times during the year. Binding Ties hosted a baby shower in January for Svetlana and Mikhail Rybalko; daughter Elizaveta was born January 8. Starting in August, Life Savers sponsored a Soldier's Angels care package to send notes and small items to a soldier in Iraq. Binding Ties and Life Savers hosted a baby shower on October 10 for Janice Reddoch and Steve GalIagher; son Daniel was born October 21.

Elaine Henrickson continues to coordinate the Prayer Chain. Her faithfulness in performing this important work is much appreciated.

Trek West V was held July 15-20 at the YMCA ofthe Rockies. Fifty-two people aItended, and porticipated in a variety of outdoor activities.

The men's and co-ed softball teams played duriIIg the summer. While it is reported the teams won no tournaments the twenty people who participated had fun, physical exercise, and fellowship.

Pastors, Binding Ties Cell Group, and many individuals made visits, made telephone calls, and sent greeting cards to members who were ill or housebound.

Ministry of Outreach - 2007

The Ministry of Outreach is one very active ministry! Many people are quietly participating in spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ by their loving lives and actions. These are some of the visible actions that have happened at HTLC:

Food Baskets: 11 Easter Baskets       42 Thanksgiving Baskets        52 Christmas Baskets After discussing the shortfall for baskets from 2006, the Outreach Ministry instituted a .pay as we go plan" starting with the Thanksgiving baskets. Every basket is now paid for by contributions before we commit to purchase it. Food basket contributors, shoppers, packers and deliverers involved over 100 people this year!

Calling and Caring Ministry: There was a small, but faithful group of trained indjviduals who visited members of our own congregation. There was also a number of God's quiet ones who visited people they had not seen for a few Sundays, were ill or needed a friendly visit. Cell Groups and individuals also sent many .thinking of you" and other cards to members, friends of the congregation, and soldiers.

Children's Clothing Center: Our congregation provides funds to the Children's Clothing Center which is open from noon until 2 PM at the old St. Lawrence School. The many clothing contributions more this year were increased by 111 gloves/mittens, 48 hats and 6 scarves through the Advent Giving Tree project.

Christian Ministries: This is a large area for HTLC participation with regular food donations, volunteers at the Food Pantry and the Sleeping Room, and participation in the Hope House Golf Tournarnent. Other projects we have supported or started in 2007 include collecting school supplies, fans, and walking in CROP Walk. HTLC members - maybe it was you - brought items for the Treasure Shop.

Blanket Cupboard: Since this Christian Ministries project is housed at HTLC on Friday afternoons, September-May, we are always aware of the continuing need. Just when the volunteers think they have sufficient linen, many clients (referred by Christian Ministries, Salvation Army or the Red Cross) anive and the shelves are empty again.

Muncie Mission: We provided school supplies for the Mission to distribute and collected coats for their project. We did not get the coats collected before they had the main distribution date so we made sure they were delivered to the give away that happened on October 27 through Christian Ministries. One goal for 2008 will be to collect coats earlier! (Hint, shop the end of the season sales so you are readyf) Many HTLC members donate to the Mission's Attic Window, holiday meals and recycling project.

Discretionary Fund: Administered by the pastor, funds are distributed to people in crisis, usually through refen-als from Christian Ministries or the Salvation Army. Many individuals have made designated gifts for this ministry .

Greeters: Both services have 2 official greeters added to the 200 unofficial greeters who make everyone who comes to Holy Trinity welcome!

Name Tag Sunday: Beginning in OctoberI the first Sunday of each month has been designated Name Tag Sunday . Everyone is encouraged to wear a name tag and to learn the names of members and guests they do not know.

Grief Ministry: A grief support team of HTLC members has been visiting grieving families in our HTLC oommunity . They bring a basket with tangible expressions of our congregation's love and concern and provide four helpful grief pamphlets and their presence over a span of months.

Habitat for Humanity: There are some volunteers for Habitat from HTLC in various capacities and our congregation provides funds. We are looking forward to a more organized effort in 2008.

Health Ministry: Our Health Ministry has had several dvities during 2007 and looks forward to more in 2008. "Potty Posts" provide helpful health hints in our bathroom stalls; healthy living articles are a regular feature of the T rinity Times, a very successful blood drive was held in May .Many members may be surprised to learn that the Indianapolis Air Show which raises matching Thrivent funds for Riley Hospital is part of this ministry!

Head Start Christmas Party: Always a fun time, 20 preschoolers and fifteen of their siblings were gifted again this December with clothing, shoes, toys and holiday treats.

Project Stepping Stone: PSS has its own interchurch committee and relies on this ministry team to help fill some of its needs and personnel.

Transportation: HTLC's van is available for members to use to pick up people needing rides to church. Members often provide this lift of friendship and service in their own vehicles.

Salvation Anny Bell Ringing: Holy T rinty Lutheran Church members have led the way in providing bell ringers and contributions for the Salvation Army Christmas kettles the last week before Christmas for many years.

Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child: This fun project for families provided 19 shoe boxes for distribution around the U.S. and world through the umbrella organization

The Lutheran Center: Our Mission Partner is in our own backyard. HTLC reaches out in fellowship and with contributions of money, paper goods and cookies to The Lutheran Center .Many HTLC bowlers participated in the Bowl-a-thon last February and many members were part of the 40th anniversary celebration this summer..

Good Neighbors: Holy T rinty Lutheran Church tries to pair up every new member with a long-time member. Good neighbors provide friendship and help answer questions, providing an even more personal side to what we're about.

Wernle Children's Home: Besides the food pantry and Children's Clothing Center, our Advent Giving Tree emphasis contributed pants, tops, coats, over 30 packages of various types of underwear, and 75+ personal care items to this ELCA facility in Richmond.

Compassion International: Sunday School children and cell groups, as well as individuals, have "adopted" young people in other nations. They are contributing to the education and other needs of children and correspond with them throughout the year.

ELCA Hunger Appeal and Disaster Response: Our congregation and many individuals have responded generously again this year; as they did with the appeal to help the Indiana-Kentucky Synod's appeal for the preschool in Chile. And, of course, we have our regular benevolence which supports the work of the larger Christian community throughout the world!

We know. There are so many things we do that are part of the mission of Christ's love in this congregation, community and world. .YOU are Christ's hands and feet and heart to your neighbor. YOU love and serve because YOU are loved.

PROJECT STEPPING STONE
2007 ANNUAL REPORT
Throughout 2007 PSS (Project Stepping Stone} continued to operate three homes. which are used to povide transitional housing for the homeless. This was the 18th consecutive year of operation for PSS since it's founding in 1989 and its 12th year as a non-profit corporation.

During the year numerous families were interviewed and seven client families used the homes rent and utility free in order to get. back on their feet financially. Approximately 25 people resided in the homes in 2007.

A very successful clean-up, maintenance and flower-planting day was held in the spring at all the houses with funding from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

The organization continues to receive support from Holy Trinity Lutheran Churdl (HTLC) and Lutheran Church of the Cross (LCC). Additionally, a grant of $7,000 from the HTLC Foundation was instrumental in allowing PSS to continue to operate three homes throughout 2007.

A special thanks to Ralph and Deloris Eldridge for aIIowing PSS to use their houses for the betterment of the Delaware County homeless. Thanks also to all the board members, officers, house leaders and volunteers for all of their dedicated work throughout 2007.

Respectfully Yours,

Larry Wood
President

HTLC Interum Staff Thoughs - JDM
Revised January 15, 2008
Presented to Congregatlon CouncIl

1. It wilt take time for us to heal well and think clearty about where we'te going and the gifts we need to get there by God's grace.

2. We have a great gift in our midst in the Paschk-Johannes family, and specifiaIly in VIcar Tracy, who is doing an internship at St. Vincent's Hoswpice, Indianapolis.

3. We have a learning contract already established with VIcar Tracy which we would suggest might be enhanced in the following ways to address HTlC needs during this interim period.

Vicar Tracy might:

     a. Preach at least monthly at HTLC and design worship accordingly. (This would be scheduled around Tracy's on-calI obligations at Sl Vincent Hospice)

     b. Attend meetings of Ministry of Nurture and collaborate in youth and teaming ministrles. ( 1 meeing per month and/or Sunday event).

     c. Collaborate with Pr .John on Adult Forum, New Member Orientation and other learning ministries with adults. (5-.7 Sunday mornings)

     d. Attend meetings of the Ministry of Worship and collaborate with Pr .John on liturgical leadership and design. (1 meeting per month)

     e. Collaborate with Doug Hazelrigg, Jennifer Sanford and Pr. John on Trinity Times. (through internet)

     f. Attend Congregation Council MeetIngs and report as needed. (1 monthly meeting)

     g. Colaborate with Pr .John on pastoral care as directed. (Indy howspitalizations)

     h. Meet in staff with Pr. John regularly - on site or  eIectronicaIly (as needed)

     i. Report to Internship Conmmitlee per Learning Contract. (meet twice ?)

     j. Collaborate  with Pr. John on the Lenten Journey .( 1 or 2 Evening Prayer during lent).

k.Exercise necessary in the above so they do not destabilize Vicar Tracy's primary obligqtion to her St. Vincent'w internwhip.

4. We might think of 1/4  time commitment initially, or not more than 15 hours per week.

5. As VIcar Tracy's plans and ours unfold, we might increase her time commitment.

6. The CounciI wilt keep all these items under review and evaluate all interim staff plans no later than June 1.

7. If VIcar Tracy becomes available earlier for call, we will revew and renegoIiate all of the above so as not to hamper her plans.

8. In the spirit of using all the gifts God sends to us we will also invite Elaina Salmon, soon to graduate from LSTC and be available for call, to supply preach or serve in some other way until called. HTLC member, Jamie-Sue Ferrell, who holds a Master of Theological Studies degree, has served as a Praise Service speaker and is willing to do additional service.

g. Many lay leaders at HTlC are regularly putting their gifts for ministry to work and several have stepped forward offering to do more during this time.
